Coal Iron from 1800's, Sad Iron,

1800's sad(solid) coal/cast iron. Very heavy cast iron,it was generally delta shaped with a handle. These were also called flat irons which were heated in a fire or stove. This stunning piece is highlighted by the wood handle that flashes a beautiful color and grain. One end appears to have had a repair, as well as a nick out of lid back corner (shows closely in pics), and priced accordingly. Over 100 years, this piece is in great working order as the lid lifts, and fits snugly when closed. Just gently pull back on the eagle head. Very primitive, and yet highly decorative, it measures approx: height of cast iron - 4.5", height to top of handle - 9.5, and width is 9". This is an historically stunning statement piece to display anywhere!
